366 Amil members were appointed by the Islamic Religious Council of Brunei Darussalam, MUIB, to carry out zakat or tithe collection in 142 designated areas throughout the country for 1447 to 1448 Hijrah. The Amil Certificate Presentation Ceremony was held simultaneously in all four districts, 18th February afternoon.
In Brunei Muara District, the Amil Certificates were presented by Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohammad Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs as Vice President of MUIB. Islamic financial institutions including Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam as well as companies such as DST, Progresif and Imagine are among those appointed as Amil to collect Zakat Harta or property tithe and Zakat Fitrah.
In Tutong District, 60 new Amils were appointed for thirty areas. On hand to present the certificates was Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Japar bin Haji Mat Dain @ Maidin, Deputy State Mufti as MUIB member. Also present were Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Mohamad Danial @ Tekpin bin Ya'akub, Member of the Legislative Council and Awang Haji Mohammad Sofian bin Haji Basri, Acting Tutong District Officer.
Meanwhile in Temburong District, the certificates were presented by Pengiran Ahmad Faris Ramadhani bin Pengiran Haji Sallehuddin, Acting Secretary of MUIB. 24 Amils were appointed for twelve areas in the District. Also present were Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Sulaiman bin Haji Nasir, Member of the Legislative Council and Awang Hassan Baha bin Haji Umar, Acting Temburong District Officer.
In Belait District, the certificates were presented by Doctor Haji Awang Mohammed Hussain bin Pehin Penyurat Haji Awang Ahmad, Member of MUIB. 22 Amils have been appointed for 16 areas in the District. Zakat payments can be made at mosques, suraus and religious halls nationwide; at the service counters of the Department of Zakat, Waqf and Baitulmal Affairs, Ministry of Religious Affairs, as well as the department's branches in Belait District, Tutong District and Temburong District.
